Bifilm Release Film for Manufacturing Composites

Release High Tech Films used for the Manufacturing of Composites

Bifilm in Reels for the Wrapping of Tubolar Items in the Roto-Traslaction Process

Bifilm has been designed in the early 80ies for the production of composite materials made with phenolic, epoxy and polyester resins and with glass, carbon and arammidic fibers.

It is a specially laminated film made with Cellofan P and Polipropilene Speciale.

The main feature of this film is that it can be used both with phenolic resins and with epoxy and polyesther resins, simply changing the side in contact with the resin.

It is used in the roto-translaction process to manufacture tubolar composites with circular and elliptical sections, and in the manual taping of irregular items.

General Features of Bifilm in the Manufacturing of Composite

Bifilm is made on our specifications, using selected films and a special lamination process.

This film has good mechanical properties and a limited heat-shrinkage during the curing cycle.

The special formulation of the film permits to use it with medium-high temperatures of polymerization (up to 140-150 C).

Thanks to the presence of cellophane it acts as an heat shield in case of high polymerization’s temperatures.

Direct Contact with Tubolar Composites

Thanks to the special chemical-physical composition Bifilm has release capabilities on both sides of the film. This film is not coated with laque or silicone for release purposes. In this way no transfer of coating or silicone and no contamination of the composite is possible, and there is no need to clean or sand the item after polymerization.

To release from the composite at the end of the polymerization the Cellofan side must be in contact with the phenolic resin.

If other resins are used the polypropylene side must be placed in contact with the termosetting resin.

When used in direct contact with the resin a glossy surface of the composite is obtained. In the production of tubolar items marked steps given by the thickness of the tape are left on the surface.

In the roto-translaction process and in manual taping it is used in reels to wrap the rod to manufacture in direct contact with the prepregs.

It has the functions to give high compaction to the different layers of prepregs in the wrapping phase, to keep all the termosetting resin within the item during the liquid stage, to give good compression to the manufactured article in the polymerization phase and to guarantee an easy release at the end of polymerization.

Release Films and Tubolar Composite’s Features

Our films for the production of composites have outstanding performances only if they are properly used. Very important are, in particular, the wrapping of the tape and polymerization’s conditions.

On this subject a specific paper is available on request.
